Simple Shamrock

I spent a lot of time looking for really simple tatting patterns.  I do mean simple.

I wanted to use them on cards and since I need about a dozen.  I wanted to be able to make and enjoy without thinking that they will probably be tossed after St. Patrick's Day is over.  Could not find what I was looking for but I did see some things that made me think.

I spent the last few days tinkering with my design.

Since I am a beginning tatter, I am still using BIG thread.  I used Lizbeth Crochet Thread size 3 in Christmas green.  My completed project is about 1 1/2 inches by 3 inches.

R= Ring
Cl=Close
Ch=Chain
- picot
+ join to

R: 2-16-2 cl
R: 2+(join to last picot of previous ring) 16-2 cl
R: 2+(join to picot of previous ring)16-2 cl
R: 2+ +(join to  picot of previous ring)16+ (join to first picot of first ring) 2 cl
Tie ball or another shuttle with same green thread and chain 24.  Cut thread leaving about 3 inches.  Tie with square knot at the bottom and weave ends in.

You can see that some of my picots are bigger than others.  But I am happy with the end result.

Simple Tatted Cross

SIMPLE TATTED CROSS

As a newbie tatter, I was looking for simple patterns.  I quickly realized that what I thought was simple and what the tatting world was simple-well lets just say I am much more simple.  So I looked around and found some ideas.  I decided to start playing and this is my first design in simple tatting.

Simple Tatted Cross
Materials :
I used size 3 Lizbeth Thread Rainbow Splash.  Using smaller thread will produce a smaller cross.  My completed project is 2 inches wide by 3 inches tall
Shuttle
Do not reverse work
All rings should be as close together as possible.
R  2 sm picot 8 – 1---1 – 6 sm picot 2 close ring
r 2 + to last sm picot 8 – 1---1 – 8 sm picot 2 close ring
r 2 + to last sm picot 8 – 1---1 – 8 sm picot 2 close ring
r 2 + to last sm picot 12 – 1---1 – 12+ to 1st sm picot on first ring 2 close ring
Tie ends together and weave into your work.
I tied a length of thread to the middle picot of the top ring to use as a book mark.  You  could also add a jump ring and chain or ribbon for a necklace.
